YWBL4DA tournament 2012 edition

As you know, next March we will try to have the third edition of the YWBL4DA tournament. And usually we start preparing it around this time of the year, by looking for good fun games and brainstorming ideas about the format. The first year it was all about 1 vs 1 and the second year it was about creativity.
I want to send to the community an open question:
If you have ideas, suggestions and specially games that you would like to see in next year’s tournament, drop me a line at joeduck@ywbl4da.com, on Steam or even better, send me a private message in the forum. I will be very glad to have some pointers. In terms of games, I am specifically looking for games that meet certain requirements. They have to be free, as we do not want to ask participants to buy a game. It should be a game with a clear way to know who wins or loses. If possible, we should be able to spectate or at least record the match. It should be simple to learn and fast to play. And ideally, participants should be able to compete directly against each other.
The cherry on the cake would be to find a genre that we have not yet explored.
And the most important, it should be FUN!
So there you go, keep your eyes peeled for games that could be used for the tournament and if you see them, tell me.

  1. Good idea Joe, I’ll give this some thought too.

Something else that might be worth some thought is the timing of this and trying to give ourselves a bit more breathing space than before. Last time it clashed with some key periods for a lot of the guys so maybe we can choose a better date to give us more flexibility

    • Oh and I think we should focus more on the pure win of the first tournament, namely games like Teeworlds and Track Mania (especially Track Mania, right Joe ?).

I think seeing as we have a nice chunk of time to do some research we can come up with some winners. But as far genres we haven’t tried I think we’ll struggle… we’ve played em all !

      • We have not. There are loads of free games out there that are fun, fast and original. We have not played sports games, no Tower Defence, no RTS, no fighting games, no Dwarf Fortress, no economy game and no real MMO. The only MMO type game we have played is Trackmania, but it was a disaster, due to the poor controls and the terrible physics model. It was literally impossible to drive in Trackmania and it should not have been used for the tournament.

  2. I’m replying a lot to my own posts, I love me, yaaaay !

But what I wanted to say was that Sass gave me an idea, what about playing Minecraft again, but rather than having a competition over a few days we have a single night of multiplayer. everyone has to build something in the same map…
Or maybe even all team up to build one thing in ?
Whatever happens I think we should stick to single game events rather than dragging them out over a certain time period.
    Just a thought …
